I did my research, picked up food for dinner, and rode the Airport Limousine bus to the airport with plenty of time to spare. This was my first time in the airport since arriving in July. It brought back all of the memories of the stress of moving and the uncertainty of arriving.
Mom arrived as wide eyed as we must have been when we stepped into Korea. We got right on the bus and took a straight shot right to Migeum where I figured we'd get a quick cab home.
Migeum is a typical neighborhood in Korea with businesses stretching 10 floors high, signs everywhere and a good bustle going on. We were immediately out of place for two reasons. One, we were wheeling HUGE suitcases down the street. Thank you YaYa for bringing about 75 pounds of stuff over for us! And two, we are not Korean. I am, for the most part, used to being stared at now and it is no big deal. But tonight, sticking out like a sore thumb got us quite a bit of attention.
Turns out getting a cab in Miguem to take you to Gungnae-dong is not so easy. Hats off to the Korean people who saw us trying to get a cab and came out in droves to help us. First a nice man offered to help, then a group of three young men in their 20s tried negotiating with the cab drivers, and finally a couple nice young girls tried to help.
Alas, no cab for us. Luckily the green 15 bus was only a few minutes away. We even had help getting the luggage off the bus. Thank you Korea, I think you won YaYa's heart on her first night in the country!
